“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1 NIV)
God is the one who chooses the leaders. He knows before we do who lead the countries worldwide. God knows if the leaders believe in Jesus and live like Him or not.
In First Samuel chapter eight, the Israel elders demanded a king to rule of them like the neighboring countries. Samuel prayed to God about the matter. God told Samuel to do what the elders asked of him. He advised Samuel to explain the elders what to expect once they do get a king.
In First Samuel chapter nine, God sent Saul to Samuel so that the prophet could anoint the chosen king of Israel.
God allows the elections to go how they were meant to so that His church understands that God is always in control.
In Daniel chapter four, God sent Nebuchadnezzar (the Babylon King) away until he acknowledged that God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes’ (Daniel 4:25). In the whole chapter, the king tells his story of being driven out of the kingdom by God because he thought he made the kingdom great. He later brought back into the kingdom after living among wild animals and ate grass.
Later in chapter five, his descendant had a party. During the party, everyone drank out of the silver and gold goblets that belonged in Jerusalem’s temple. They gave thanks to the gods of silver and gold. Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall later in the chapter. He advised the king that God told him that his time was up as king. The kingdom would be divided between the Medes and the Persians. The king was slain that night, and the Medes took over Babylon.
No one should be debating about the candidates running for office. It is so easy for our society to get caught up in talking about the candidates and their character instead of the issues the country is dealing with.
“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” (Romans 13:6-7)
However, we as Christians need to be praying about our leaders and our country. We shouldn’t be debating with each other about the upcoming United States election. We are to focus on loving one another and respond like God wants us to respond or not respond about the government leaders.
About this Election
The question we should be asking ourselves: whether or not the person you vote for represent the values that we as Christians are supposed to stand for.
We are to represent who God is in everything we do. You should be praying about the upcoming election and ask yourself if the person you are voting for represents the values the U.S. supposed to stand for. According to the Pledge of Alliance, we are one nation under God.
Do you understand what God stands for? God told us from the beginning of creation. He is the one and only true God. No god is before Him.
The Bible tells us who God is, what He is about and how to show God, we love Him. Why do we let politics get in the way how we are to live? We are to vote how God leads us to vote, not how we feel we should vote. Most of us are guilty of voting because of society’s standards instead focusing and praying on the issues that would affect our country.
I am not going to write about any topics noted below. The following topics are of concern in the coming election:
- Abortion (previous post, What Does God Say About Abortion?)
- Transgender (& how they affect children; previous post, What Does God Say About Gender Confusion?)
- Same sex marriage (previous post, What Does God Say about Same-Sex Relationships and Same-Sex Marriage?)
- Inflation (economy)
- Freedom to practice religion
- U. S. borders
- Gun control
- War
All churches who follow Christ need to stand their ground. However, not all church leaders are living like God wants all Christians to live. So, if your pastors or other church leaders are pushing a candidate that doesn’t follow Christian values, ask the Holy Spirit to be your guide to decide whether you should be at the church. Plus, if the Holy Spirit tells you who to vote for, follow the prompting.
The church leaders are held to a higher standard. Pray for the leaders to turn their lives back to God if they are not living holy lives.
What are the motives of churches that push a candidate? What do they get in return? These are questions you should be asking yourself in the next two weeks before election day.
