34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35 (NIV)
You know that God asked us to love one another. How we speak to each other reflects the command Jesus talked about. How do we love one another when we cuss people out? Or tell people off in anger?
In Ephesians chapter four verse fifteen: 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Christians, we always have to speak to one another in love. There are moments when we give constructive criticism. There should be encouraging words that come out of our mouths. We should tell the truth to each other in love. Don’t say: ‘You’ll never get better’. Life and death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
In First Thessalonians chapter five verses nine through eleven: 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
When a brother or sister does something wrong or is in sin, try to remain calm. Excuse yourself and pray about the situation when angry. Approach the brother or sister later and have a conversation. Let the person in question know about the behavior and how it affected you without putting the person down.
In James chapter five verses nineteen and twenty: 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
