Cohabitation isn’t of God.  The only time a couple lives together is when they are married.  In Genesis 2:20b-24 (NIV), the story of how Eve was created explains the reason cohabitation goes against God’s plan:

20b. But Adam no suitable helper was found. 21. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with the flesh.  Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

24. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Let’s break it down.  We Christians are supposed to look out for each other and not tempt each other.  It is inviting temptation to one another since you’re living under the same roof as a married couple.  You are living in sin if you and your significant other are already having sex.

As Paul wrote in First Corinthians 6:13b-17: The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14. By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.  15. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ Himself?  Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16. Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”

This is about your relationship with God.  Paul continues in First Corinthians 6:18b: All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body.  19. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; 20. You were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your bodies.

God doesn’t want any couples living together before marriage.  He created marriage when he created Eve for Adam.  God’s vision is to create families through marriage.  In Genesis 1:27-28a: God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  28. God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.  Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over everything creature that moves on the ground.

Living with your significant other is outside God’s will for your life.  We were meant to live holy lives, which means honoring God with our bodies.

In Proverbs 18:22: He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.

It is time to repent and take the steps necessary to honor God with your life.
